Pastor William “Bill” Jesse Davis, 96, of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross.
Born in Blackshear December 24, 1926, he had lived in Pierce County most of his life. He attended Blackshear High School but was drafted into the military before graduation. He obtained his diploma while serving in the U.S. Army. He later attended the Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, earning his theology degree. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 24 years as a letter carrier for the City of Blackshear. He was also a farmer and the founder of Bethel Baptist Church in Blackshear where he served as pastor for several decades. He was currently a member of Faith Baptist Church in Blackshear.
He was the son of the late William Jesse Davis and Mary Dubberly Davis. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nina Haddock Davis and his sister, Bettie Davis Campbell.
Survivors include his son, Daryl Davis, Blackshear and his daughter, Deana Davis Shaw, his son-in-law Matthew Shaw and grandson Ryan Shaw, all of Waconia, MN, as well as his nephew and wife, Stephen and Carol Campbell, Yulee, FL.
Visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
