WAYCROSS — Mrs. Annette Gamage Saxon, 88, died Thursday afternoon, February 6, 2025, at Baptist Village Retirement Communities after an extended illness.

She was born March 27, 1936 in Waycross to the late Thomas Benjamin Gamage and Betty Thomas Gamage Smith. In 1997, Mrs. Saxon retired from Winn-Dixie as the Bakery Manager after 28 years of service. She also was a member of Crossview Church of God of Prophecy.

In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert “Sonny” Saxon; son, Brian Saxon; brother, Franklin Gamage; and stepfather, David Smith.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Saxon (Bonnie) and Tommy Saxon (Kellie), both of Waycross; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Janice Gamage Slater of Statesboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was beloved by many and often referred to as “Grandma” by more than just her grandchildren. Her love of her church, especially during softball season, was well known and beyond comparison. Many knew her as Mrs. Annette from Winn-Dixie, a woman with an incredible work ethic with a servant’s heart.

However, she is most well known for her love of Christ. She loved to sing the praises of her Savior, and was a prayer warrior who went to battle each morning sitting at her dining room table. Mrs. Saxon was full of joy, loved to laugh and truly enjoyed making those around her smile as well. She will be missed by all.

A funeral service was held Sunday, February 9 at Crossview Church of God of Prophecy. She was laid to rest in Oakland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjudes.org.

Sympathy may be expressed by posting to her tribute wall at www.musicfuneralhome. com.

Music Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
