Dorsey Jackson ‘Sam’ Cason
Dorsey Jackson “Sam” , 96, of Blackshear, passed away Friday morning, January 10, 2025, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross.
Born in Blackshear, July 9, 1928, he had lived in Pierce County all of his life. After serving in the United States Marine Corps, he returned to Pierce County and began farming tobacco with his father and later his brother-in-law, Joe. Although he never married or had children of his own, he showered his affection on his nieces, Joni and Kena. He loved to hunt and fish, but most importantly, he loved going to church and never missed a service at Rehobeth Baptist Church, where he was a lifelong member.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley and Isabel Waters , as well as both of his sisters, Colleen Cochran and Clara O’Steen, his brother, John Malcolm “Mack” and a brother-in-law, Joe Cochran.
Survivors include his brother-in-law, Kenneth O’Steen, Blackshear; three nieces, Joni Cochran (Tim) Farmer, Kena (Steve) Butler and Kathy and numerous other relatives, including great nephew, Joey (Carlie) Farmer, great nieces, Cassie (Sam) Fipps, Emilee Farmer, Kady King and Kenly (Jake) Hacker.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, from the Rehobeth Baptist Church.
Interment followed in the Rehobeth Cemetery.
