WAYCROSS — Shirley Jean Dowling Williams Corbitt, of Waycross, passed away peacefully with her family by her side Thursday morning, December 19, 2024, at her residence.

Mrs. Corbitt was born in Waycross on January 30, 1939, to the late Albert Lee Dowling and the late Antis Gene Woods Dowling. She made Waycross her home for her entire life and retired from the Georgia Department of Labor in 1993.

A devoted Christian, Mrs. Corbitt was an active member of the form e r Crawford Street Baptist Church. A woman of many passions, she had a deep love for outdoor activities, including mowing, gardening, tending flowers, and traveling — especially for the Annual Williams-Price Beach Vacation and later, the Annual Williams Family Beach Week. She cherished time spent with family, cooking exceptional meals, notably her renowned Thanksgiving cornbread dressing and breakfast hoe cakes, and hosting gatherings that created lasting memories for her loved ones.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Corbitt was preceded in death by her first husband, Darrell Williams; her second husband, the Rev. Hugh W. Corbitt; and an infant son, Darrell Lee Williams.

She is survived by her children, Tamara (Tammy) Williams Yawn (husband, Jim) of Windermere, Fla.; Cynthia (Cindi) Lynn Williams Thomas (late husband, Jimmy) of Waycross; and Darrell Timothy (Tim) Williams of Philadelphia, Pa. Mrs. Corbitt also is survived by five grandchildren, Seth Yawn, Zack Yawn (wife, Megan), Nikki Blanchard (husband, Justin), Alan B. Wheeler, Jr., and Jessi Freeman (husband, Steven); seven great-grandchildren, Liam Yawn, Charlotte Yawn, Aubrey Blanchard, Caleb Blanchard, Lilah Blanchard, Jacobie Freeman, and Jessalyn Freeman; three dear sisters, Reditha Shaw (husband, Mack), Becki Price Brown (husband, Jim), and Darlene Thomas (husband, Liston); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved relatives; and many dear friends.

Mrs. Corbitt’s funeral was held Saturday, December 28 at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Interment follow ed at Greenlawn Cemetery.
