Douglas Edgar Gartrell
Douglas Edgar Gartrell
Born May 22, 1974, in Canton, Ohio, he was a son of Darrell Gartrell and Diane Pettay Cooper. He had also lived in Kentucky and Fayetteville, North Carolina before moving to Patterson in 2020. He had worked as a pool maintenance technician for Peach Pools in Georgia but was previously a saw line supervisor at Comtech in North Carolina and had worked with cattle in Kentucky and Ohio.
He loved the Lord, his wife and his momma. He was a hard worker, kindhearted and easy to love. He enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Washington DC, Ohio, the mountains and the beaches and camping and trail riding with his horses in Florida, Georgia and Alabama, especially with his horse, Max. He loved watching Ohio State football and was a Buckeye for life. Also, he enjoyed listening to a variety of music including George Strait, Chris Stapleton, Gary Allan and others, but his favorite music was hard rock, including Godsmack, Metallica and above all AC/DC.
He also enjoyed the sound of a two-stroke Honda CR500, motor bike racing, playing Farming Simulator on his PlayStation and talking about farm equipment, cows and horses.
He was a best friend and loving husband to his wife, Jennifer Nield, Patterson. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Diane Pettay Cooper, Canton, OH; father, Darrell Gartrell, Reddick, Florida; his sister to whom he was a first best friend and adventure buddy, Dechelle Thompson (husband Jim), Malvern, OH; a brother who looked to him as a hero, Darren Moreno-Gartrell (husband Robert Moreno-Gartrell), Garrettsville, OH; two stepchildren, Jordan Nield, Waycross and Joshua Nield, Patterson; his cousins, Neal, Keith and Chad who were his partners in crime and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He thoroughly enjoyed his life, which was cut short by cancer but leaves a legacy by donating his body to the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Suwanee for research in the hope that one day a cure will be found for the cancer that took him away from all of those who loved him dearly.
