Dr. Cleveland Thompson III

UNDATED — Dr. Cleveland Thompson III passed away peacefully March 19, 2025, at the age of 86.

He was born to Cleveland Thompson, Jr. and Heroina Solana Thompson, and was a cherished brother to Lenora Ann Keith. Dr. Thompson is survived by his son, Cleveland Thompson IV; and his grandchildren, Cleveland Thompson V and Christina Snow Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nell Ray Thompson, whose love and partnership brought joy and strength to his life. She was a Registered Nurse and served along side him for nearly 50 years.

Dr. Thompson pursued his education at the University of Georgia and the Medical College of Georgia where he became a gifted general surgeon. Upon finishing his medical training, he served his country in the U.S. Air Force, earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel while serving in Vietnam.

Upon returning home, Dr. Thompson spent 20 years serving the community of Waycross, touching many lives through his surgical expertise and loving care. He was a proud member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

Dr. Thompson then extended his spirit of service to Africa, where he served as a medical missionary for a decade, bringing healing and the Word of God to those in need.

After returning to Waycross, Dr. Thompson again served his community volunteering as a Hospice physician. His dedication to his patients and his community was a testament to his extraordinary character and faith.

Dr. Thompson will be fondly remembered for his humility, kindness, and immense impact on the lives of those he served. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and all who had the privilege to know him.
