Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Burton Eugene Carter; her brothers, John Stone, Allen Stone, Clifford Stone, William Lee Stone and Joe Brown Stone; and one sister, Nellie Stone Johnson.

She is survived by her son, Calvin Eugene Carter of Baxley; daughter, Robin Carter Barnes (LaFerrell) of Waycross; daughter-inlove, Debby (Larry) Altman of Patterson; grandchildren, Shelly Carter Cox (Randy) and Stefanie Carter Swain (Chris) of Waycross, Sheila Carter Searcy (Jim) of Boston, Ga., Sarah Barnes Baughman (John) of Summersville, WVa., and Stephen Barnes (Kim) of Leesburg, Va.; great grandchildren, Christopher Swain, Matthew Swain (Harley), Charles Barnes, Asher Barnes, Ella Baughman, Reid Baughman, Austin Fitzgerald, Dylan Fitzgerald, Khloe Newman and Jaxon Searcy; great-great granddaughter, Veta Marie Swain; an honorary greatgreat granddaughter, Lily Strickland; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Carter was a longtime member of Deenwood Baptist Church in Waycross.

Early in her married life, Mrs. Carter worked as a sitter with the Waycross Hospital sitter service and she enjoyed taking care of family members during their time of need. She loved having family gatherings, reading her Bible, crocheting and puzzling. She also was known for her sass, quick wit, sage advice, and was the family pool and poker shark.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, March 18 at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank Integrity Health and Wellness, Hospice Satilla, and Mrs. Doris (Dink) Watson for their support and care of Mrs. Carter.
