WAYCROSS — Gerald Wayne “Pony” Wilson, 74, of Waycross died Sunday afternoon, March 9, 2025, at his residence after an extended illness.
Wilson was born in Douglas to the late Henry Carroll Wilson and Bonnell Jewel Wilson. He made Waycross his home for most of his life.
Wilson worked in lawn maintenance for many years, eventually retiring from Baptist Village Nursing Home in the groundskeeping department.
He was well known for his charitable work as a group member of the local “Pony Express.” Wilson was a skilled craftsman in the area of woodworking. He also made amazing knives, enjoyed swamp fishing and working with children.
Wilson is survived by his wife, Nora Willis Wilson of Waycross; a fur baby, Little Bit; brothers, David Carroll Wilson, Sr., and wife Audrey, Rob Morgan and wife Diane, and Gene Justice and wife Sherri, and Jimmy Cox; numerous godsons, nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
A graveside service was held Monday, March 17 in Oakland Cemetery.
