Kevin Van Griffis

Kevin Van Griffis
Griffis was born September 23, 1956 in Argyle to the late William “Billy” Griffis and Gertrude Inman Griffis. His love for music and elect ronics started at a young age when he managed World Hi-Fi Electronics in Douglas.
Later on, he moved to Fitzgerald and worked for Seagraves Sounds Systems.

He loved playing the guitar and harmonica.
Later in life, Griffis moved to Colorado where he worked as the Finance Manager at several large auto dealerships. His daughter, Lindsey, remembers him as an avid outdoorsman … “I remember our summers and Christmas spent there with dad. It was magical. We spent them hiking, fly fishing, camping, biking, and countless hours playing in the snow. Dad taught me how to drive on ice and sleet — I'll never forget those car rides! I remember dad taking me to the top of a mountain on July 4th one year and being able to see the fireworks from all over.”
After moving back to Waycross to help take care of his parents, Griffis received several certifications in the field of Mycology, Immunology, DNA Sequence of Testing, Analysts and Immune Results, Infectious Diseases Assessments and Health Risk assessments. He was a certified Indoor Air Quality and RRP Lead consultant for the Environmental Protection Agency. In 2019, he started his own business, Quality Air Consultants.
“Dad didn't meet a stranger. He had incredible charm and charisma. You loved him the minute you met him,” affectionately remembers Lindsey. “He was funny and silly, everyone had nicknames, and I remember at Christmas time, Dad would write riddles on all our presents and we would have to guess what they were before we could open them. He was creative and artistic. Dad was incredibly handy and could fix anything, and he also could turn nothing into something. Give him a twig, and he would turn it into a swing!
“He was compassionate and loved helping people. He loved his family, and he didn't have friends because once a friend you quickly would become his family. His most proud title was ‘Granddad.’ He loved his girls, ‘pumpkinhead and firecracker,’ as he called them. Dad gave us a lifetime worth of memories to carry us through the days without him here on earth.”
In addition to his parents, Griffis was preceded in death by his brother, William I. Griffis.
Survivors include his son, Dustin Jay Griffis of Tifton; daughter, Lindsey Griffis Walters (Jonathan) of Pike Road, Ala.; grandchildren, Adalyn Ray Walters and Ann Harvey Walters of Pike Road, Ala.; siblings, Dawn Griffis (Todd Wheeler) of Waycross, and Terry L. Griffis (Delane) of Foley, Ala.; sister-in-law, Eileen Griffis of Statesboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
