Jerry Lamar ‘Peanut Man’ Harris

Harris WAYCROSS — Jerry Lamar Harris, the “Peanut Man,” 75, of Waycross, died Wednesday afternoon, November 20, 2024, at St. Vincents Riverside in Jacksonville, Fla., after an extended illness.

Harris WAYCROSS — Jerry Lamar Harris, the “Peanut Man,” 75, of Waycross, died Wednesday afternoon, November 20, 2024, at St. Vincents Riverside in Jacksonville, Fla., after an extended illness.

Harris was born in Waycross to the late George S. Harris and Lovie Wildes Harris, and made Waycross his home all his life. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was well-known in Waycross for more than 25 years as “Peanut Man.” He enjoyed rebuilding classic cars, fishing and gardening in his free time.

In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by six siblings, Wayne Harris, Kenny Harris, Ronald Harris, Helen Rowland, Shirley Bonenfant and Faye Guinn.

Harris is survived by two children, Jeffrey Lamar Harris of North Carolina, Cindy Harris of North Carolina; several grandchildren and greatgrandchildren; five siblings, Johnny Harris, wife Carolyn, of Waycross, Bennie Joe Harris of Waycross, Martha McCowen of Waycross, Arlene Scott of Waycross, and Betty Wildes, husband Lamar, of Brunswick; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service was held Monday, November 25 in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in High Bluff Cemetery.
