Rev. Owen Alfred ‘Bud’ Jones, Jr.

NAHUNTA — Rev. Owen Alfred “Bud” Jones, Jr., 86 of Nahunta, passed way Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Jesup Health and Rehab in Jesup after a brief illness.

Rev. Owens was born in Homerville. He is preceded in death by his parents; Owen and Josie Mae Jones; two sisters, Dorothy Bishop and Barbara Rupert; and a son, Richard “Richie” Alan Jones.

Rev. Owens was a master diesel machinic and was a long haul trucker for numerous companies. He was the owner and small engine repairman at Jones Lawnmower Shop in Nahunta. A After retirement, Rev. Owens spent his time enjoying working in the garden, wood working and reading. He was an ordained minister who pastored at several churches. He was also a deacon at Satilla Missionary Baptist Church in Hortense.

Rev. Owens is survived by his wife of more than 66 years, Ruth Roberson Jones; his children, Phillip Jones (Barbara), Gary Jones (Lynn) and Suzanne Manning (E.S.); his grandchildren, Shannon Jones of Atlanta, Rebecca Musgrove (Jason), Callie Cox (Stevie), all of Waycross, Austin Blocker, Lily Blocker, both of Nahunta, Erin Jones of Sevierville, Tenn., Trey Jones (Amber) of Knoxville, Tenn., Megean Miller of Pooler, Keegan Harden (Elizabeth) of Cape May, N.J., and Sarah Turlington (John) of Patterson; 16 great grandchildren; one brother, John Jones (Linda); one sister, Kathy Jones; and also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

A funeral service was held Saturday morning, March 1, 2025 at Satilla Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Daniel Harris, Bro. David Jacobs and Rev. Mike Hendrix officiating.

Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery at a later date.

Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
