WAYCROSS — Mr. David Bennett, 64, of Waycross died Thursday afternoon, February 6, 2025, at his residence after a brief illness.

He was born in Bellville, Ill., to the late Melvin Leroy Bennett and Yoshiko Sueta Bennett. Bennett spent his early years as a child in Japan before moving to Waycross in 1971. He graduated from Waycross High School in 1979.

From there he attended Georgia State University where he earned a degree in accounting. Bennett lived most of his life in Atlanta, before settling back in Waycross in 2020. He worked as a C.P.A., and as Senior Vice President for Assurant in its tax department. He enjoyed playing golf and tennis.

Bennett always will be remembered for his kindhearted spirit. He was willing to do anything for anyone he encountered in need. Bennett was very funny and never failed to brighten someone’s day and put a smile on their face. He could always give tough love when it was needed. Along with his parents, he also was preceded in death by his brother, Tony Bennett.

He is survived by two children, Sam Bennett and his wife, Libby, of Yuma, Ariz., and Emily Bennett see OBITS, Page 4A of Columbus, Ga.; his stepson, Matthew Dombrowski and his wife, Kali, of Cumming, Ga.; two grandchildren, Malachi Alexander Ruger-Bennett and Jackson Dombrowski; two sisters, Carol Gibbs of Waycross and Marlene Johnson and her partner, Lyle Bentley, of Clearwater, Fla.; the mother of his children, Joan Bennett of Columbus; four nephews, Mason Gibbs and his wife, Blaire, Tony Gibbs, Austin Alderman and his wife, Tiffany, and Winston Alderman and his wife, Kandace; three great nephews, Finn Alderman, Kane Alderman, and Bridge Little; two aunts, Hideko Sueta and Junko Sueta, both of Japan; and numerous other relatives.

A memorial service celebrating the life of David Bennett will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, February 15 in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
