Andrew ‘Andy’ Clough, owner of Clough Pecan Company, passes at 81

Andrew Lee “Andy” Clough Jr., long-time owner and operator of Clough Pecan Company and inventor of the Excel and Eclipse varieties of pecans, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, May 27, at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross. He was 81.

Clough was the long-time owner of Clough Pecan Company on U.S. Highway 84 and was the largest pecan grower in Pierce County. Clough developed and patented two varieties of pecans, Excel and Eclipse, and he was known as one of the most knowlegeable pecan farmers in the industry.

He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Georgia Pecan Growers and was named the 2015 Pierce County Chamber of Commerce Farmer of the Year.  

Clough loved farming and business and was a leader in the community.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Blackshear and is also remembered as a family man.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, from the First Baptist Church in Blackshear.
