Pearl Thornton Jinks, 99, departed this life Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at home in Blackshear.
She was born February 8, 1924 in Camilla to the late Eddie V. Thornton and Addie M. Pate. Roughly around the age of nine or 10, she moved to Waycross, where she received her high school education from Center High School. She was dietarian at Lee Street High and also worked at Pierce County Nursing Home and Waycross Shoe factory and around the farm.
She was a member of the Zion Baptist Church of Blackshear, where she participated in singing in the church choir.
Preceding her in death was her husband of more than 50 years, Willie D. Jinks and one son, Ronald V. Jinks.
She leaves to mourn her loss and cherish her memories, three sons, William T. Jinks, Blackshear, Bennie Johnson and wife of North Carolina and David Nixon, Kingsland; daughter-in-law, Renita Jinks; her grandchildren to mourn and cherish her include Cassandra Holmes, Shambrick (Kitty) Harris, Jacobe Omar Jinks, Chandra Hunter, Chelsea, Megan and Tiffany Swinson and Chentel; great-grandchildren, Courtney Holmes, Jacobe Omar Jinks Jr., Jakia Harris, Zavius Harris, Laniya Conaway, Jamal Hunter and La’Chandra Hunter and a great-great-grandchild Za’Ahir Conaway.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at the funeral home, 505 Ware Street, Blackshear.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, from the chapel of Rainge Memorial Chapel. Pastor Jimmy Greene will deliver words of comfort and Pastor Morris Pate will give Scripture and offer prayer.
Musical selections will include recordings of “Um Good” by Smokie Norful and “Goodness of God” by CeCe Winans.
