David Lee Best

David Lee Best, 71, of Blackshear, passed away early Friday morning, November 24, 2023, at his residence.

Born in Augusta April 15, 1952, he lived in South Carolina for several years before moving to Pierce County 11 years ago.  He worked as a security guard for Grace Davis Concrete and went on to retire from Universal Protection Service in Aiken, SC. He was a natural musician. He played many instruments including the guitar, drums and bass.  He also loved to sing (he had an incredible voice) and dance.  “You could occasionally catch him DJ’ing events as well,” said his family. He enjoyed going to flea markets and going on picnics but his favorite thing to do was to explore every beach he could with the love of his life, Janice. He will be remembered as an extraordinarily kind human being. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was a son of the late Frances Sweet Key and John Henry Best Jr.

Survivors include his fiance’, Janice Cooley, Blackshear; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert “Bob” Best and Dr. Julia Johnson, North Hero, VT; two nephews, M. Scott (Kristine) Best and Michael L. (Namsuk) Best; three great-nieces, Kameryn Best, Lauryn Best and Minah Best and several other relatives and friends.

His wishes were to be cremated and to be remembered as being a friend to everyone.

Memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) or to St. Jude (www.stjude.org).
