Wiley C. “Bo” Tanner, 82, of Blackshear, passed away early Monday afternoon, November 20, 2023, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross.
Born in Nicholls May 26, 1941, he lived in Jacksonville, Florida for many years prior to moving to Pierce County in 2002. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran having served on the U.S.S. Saratoga. He retired after many years as a truck driver carrying fuel and milk. He was a true southern gentleman and man of integrity who loved unconditionally. He was soft-spoken, kind, and gentle. He had the most giving heart to those he loved and was a father-figure to many, including strangers. He was of the Christian faith.
He was a son of the late Earlie Tanner and Margaret Teston Tanner Sirmons. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Rosa Marie Hice Tanner.
Survivors include his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Warnie Nettles and Colleen and Eugene Corbitt, all of Blackshear; his brother, DeWaine Tanner, Hortense; his step-daughter, Denise Attaway, Indian Land, SC and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Warnie Nettles officiating.
Interment will follow in the Waters Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Mark Tanner, Josh Nettles, Jonathan Nettles, Daythan Cox, Sheldon Barber, Joshua Nettles, Simon Nettles and Perry Attaway.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorials be made to the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in his memory.
