Glenna Laughinghouse Griffis Lampp

Glenna Laughinghouse Griffis Lampp, 87, went home to be with her Lord Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023. She died peacefully at her home, 6618 Glory Lane, Blackshear, following a lingering illness.

She was born Feb. 5, 1936, in Waycross to the late Donald Leroy Laughinghouse Sr. and Ida Ruth Laughinghouse. She was also preceded in death in 1984 by her first husband and “love of her life,” John Henry Griffis Jr. Her second husband, Howard Lampp died in 2003. The youngest of three siblings, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Donald Leroy Laughinghouse Jr., her sister, Mary Engram and a niece, Terri Laughinghouse.

A native of Waycross, she graduated from Waycross Senior High School in 1954, and Massey Business School, Jacksonville, FL in 1955. In her business career through the years, she worked for various firms, including H. H, Burnett, GMAC, Gulf Life Insurance and retired from American General Insurance, Orlando, FL in 2000.

She was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church in Waycross, where she was a member of Ida Laughinghouse Sunday School Class and Sunshine Seniors. She was devoted in serving her Lord by teaching Sunday School and VBS, welcoming newcomers, sending cards and food to sick and bereaved families. Another special quality that she had was writing letters or thank you cards to family and friends for gifts or even a visit. She was always thinking of others.

She was very independent, organized and had a sharp mind taking care of her own business right up to the end. She was still “driving her own train.” She was loving and thinking of her family when she had planned her own funeral service. One of her favorite Bible verses is Psalm 23:1-2, “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters.”

Survivors include her four  children, Donna (Bruce) Crawford, Waycross; Pamela (Jeff) Sperry, Monticello, FL, John (Diane) Griffis, Blackshear, and Tim (Holli) Griffis, Savannah; nine grandchildren, Shon (Molly) Crawford, Chad Crawford (Manu Bansal), Matthew (Jessica) Crawford, Jason (Jennifer) Smith, Blake Smith, Hank (CarolAnn) Griffis, Caleb Griffis, Faith Griffis and McKensie Griffis; 12 great-grandchildren, Jacob Crawford, Eli Crawford, Collin Crawford, Macy Crawford, Braelynn Sapp, Aubree Smith, Isaac Smith, Beckham Crawford, Nora Crawford, Everett Crawford, River Griffis and Grant Griffis; nephews, Donnie (Faye) Laughinghouse, Larry Engram and Brian Engram; her step-children, Sandra (Larry) Aikens, Beverly Craven, Janet (Bob) Smith and David (Susan) Lampp, all of Florida, and a host of other family and friends.

A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she has left a wonderful Christian legacy for her family. These are just a few comments her children and grandchildren shared: “Our precious Mom, a classy lady full of grace, showed us the path to Christ, that was handed down from one generation to another, making an amazing legacy. In her unwavering love for family and friends, she taught us to give and forgive, bravely taking life head-on with Christ by her side. She was loving, had a quick sense of humor, straight to the point advice with love, sweet with added spoonful of kindness. Serving and giving to the Lord came first with our mom. These are lessons we will hold dear throughout our lifetime.”

“She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and she forever be in our hearts. So, her children say, “Job well done, Mom.” And Glenna can say with the Apostle Paul, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m. at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ashley Corbett will deliver the eulogy. Diane Griffis, Glenna’s daughter-in-law, will share the family tribute. Jacob Crawford, Glenna’s great-grandson, will present a musical piano solo before and during the service.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Shon Crawford, Chad Crawford, Matthew Crawford, Jason Smith, Blake Smith, Hank Griffis and Caleb Griffis.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ida Ruth Laughinghouse Sunday School Class.

She will be buried in Oakland Cemetery by her beloved husband, J. H. Griffis Jr.
