Star Woodard Wheeler, 86, of St. Simons Island, departed this life Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, FL.
She was born September 2, 1937 in Eastman to the late Ernest Hansel and Eva Ruth W. Woodard, formerly of Blackshear. She had been a resident of Glynn County since 1976, and was an educator at Glynn Academy and retired after 37 years of dedicated service to her students. She was a member of Christ Church Frederica, and enjoyed travel, reading, crossword puzzles and shopping. She took multiple students to Europe during the summers and later traveled multiple trips to Africa.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Norred Wheeler.
Survivors include two sons, Keehln Wheeler and wife Maggie, and Woody Wheeler and wife Meredith, all of Atlanta; two granddaughters, Lydia and Maddie Wheeler; a sister, Rebecca Herrin and husband Owen, Waycross; a brother, Ernie Woodard and wife Maureen, St. Petersburg, FL; nieces, Shannon Borton (Chris), Christi Woodard, Jenny Wainright (Heath), Sarah Broyles (Harry)and Kimberly Bird (Quincy).
A private interment will take place at Christ Church Cemetery.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Glynn Academy Auditorium. Everyone is invited with a reception following the ceremony.
