Verdie Lee McCray Eunice

Verdie Lee McCray Eunice, 90, passed away peacefully Monday,November 6, 2023, at her residence in Blackshear, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family.

She was born March 21,1933 in Waycross to the late William Franklin McCray and Cora Lee Waldron McCray. While growing up in Waycross and spending many years there, she and her husband later moved to Blackshear in 1990 to operate the family business, Ace Pole Company, along with their two sons until her retirement. She loved to cook and spend time with her family. She was an avid gardener and loved to fish. Mrs. Eunice was a dedicated member of Patterson Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, C.M. (Steve) Eunice Jr.; granddaughter, Amy S. Eunice; one sister, Dorothy McCray Waters and two brothers, Willis McCray and Alton McCray.

Survivors include her two sons, Cecil (Debbie) Eunice and Garry (Pam) Eunice, all of Blackshear; grandson, Cecil (Mindy) Eunice; great-grandchildren, Mattie, Cole, Mavery, Mykah and Moriah Eunice, all of Blackshear; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and lifelong friends, Annette Corbitt and Leland Eldridge.

After her cancer diagnosis, she was able to remain in the comfort of her home with the help of her caregivers. The family would like to thank Juana Torres, Linnie Daniels, Libby Jacobs, Rosalind Inman, Delree Lee, Donna Lee and Angie Ward. Her family would also like to thank Hospice Satilla for their services in her time of illness.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday, November 10, at the Patterson Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 10, from the Patterson Baptist Church with the Rev. R.C. James, Jr. officiating.

Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Darrel Hunter, Robin Sowell, Tony Thomas, Daniel Mathis, Billy Murray and Hank Williams.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Hospice Satilla, 808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, GA 31501.

Music Funeral Home of Waycross is in charge of arrangements.
