Eureta “Rita” Thornton, 93, died Thursday night, November 16, 2023. at Hospice Satilla Hospice House.
She was born September 26, 1930 in Wayne County to the late Edward Marion Todd and Stella Dennison Todd. She retired from First National Bank, United Federal Credit Union and TnT Fencing. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, Waycross Woman’s Club and the Miriam Sunday School Class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Kelsoe Thornton and numerous siblings.
Survivors include three sons, John Ricky Thornton Sr. (Alicia), Waycross, Michael Kelsoe Thornton (Malkah Hochman), Jacksonville, FL and Corey Seward Thornton (Brian Hall), Reston, VA; one daughter, Rhonda Elaine Freeman, Brunswick; grandchildren, Heidi Moody, Sasha Silva, Elizabeth Ruiz, Michael John Thornton, Andy Thornton, John Ricky Thornton Jr., Kelsie Walker and Kai Freeman; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Vonnie Anderson, Fitzgerald; brother, James Carroll Todd, Appling County and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20, from the Central Baptist Church.
Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
