Lady Bears tennis falls to Berrien in Final Four battle

The Lady Bears tennis team fought an epic, four-hour battle with Berrien County in the final four, but lost in a 3-2 tiebreaker.

Grace Christopher, at number one singles, battled her Berrien opponent losing the first set 6-4, winning the second set 7-5, battling to a tie in the third set 6-6, before finally falling in the fourth and deciding set by a score of 7-5.

The doubles teams won both of their matches to give the Lady Bears a chance to advance.

Maura Kate Waters and Taylor Sikes won 6-3 and 6-4, while number two doubles Mattie Lee and Jasmine Sergent won 6-2 and 7-5.

Number two singles Rebecca Tyre lost 6-2 and 7-5 and number three singles Marli Walker lost 6-4 and 6-2.

“Grace Christopher at #1 singles fought for over four hours and left everything she had on the court but came up a little short in the third set tiebreak,” said head coach Kathy Bradley.  “We finished the season at 19-3, Region Champs, and made it to the 1st Final Four appearance since 2012 and 2013 so I would classify this season as very successful. Also, we have a great core group of young ladies coming back for next season so the future looks very good for PCHS Lady Bears Tennis.”
