Offerman, Blackshear host ‘Day of Prayer’

Nearby sirens formed a timely counterpoint to Pastor Morris Pate’s opening remarks to last Thursday’s observance of the National Day of Prayer in Blackshear. This year’s central theme was “Pray Fervently”.

A crowd of about 50 people from several different houses of worship, young and old, black and white, gathered to hear Pastor Pate and Pastors John Williams of Blackshear Church of God, Nathaniel Anderson of Evergreen Church in Bristol and Chris Roberts of Bridge Church in Blackshear, speak on the importance of fervent belief.

Each of the four speakers focused upon words from  James 5:16, “the effectual fervent prayer of the righteous man availeth much.”

The speakers also expressed gratitude that we live in a country that permits open freedom of worship.

The event concluded with an open call to prayer where attendees either individually or in small groups, loudly or wordlessly, put the instruction to pray fervently into practice.
