Dallin Thornton passes away following lengthy battle with rare disease

Dallin Thomas Thornton, who inspired the community through his battle with an extremely rare disease, has passed away.

Thornton, 8, passed away Friday, May 19, at home, following a courageous battle with Farber’s Disease.

Thornton was featured in a 2021 article about his battle with the extremely rare disease.

Thornton suffered from Farber’s disease, a lipid storage disorder. He was just the 81st person diagnosed with the disorder. His battle with Farber’s helped bring awareness and treatment to more than 100 other families around the world struggling with the same puzzling, terminal illness. The metabolic disorder causes fatty acids to build up at harmful levels in joints, tissues and the central nervous system. The condition has a life expectancy of just two years old.

Thornton was a student at Blackshear Elementary School and was a fishing enthusiast. He was all boy and loved sharks, monster trucks, Nerf guns, swimming, goats, chickens and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Funeral services were held at noon Monday, May 22, from the Walkerville Baptist Church.
