Local Fare Market opens for new season Saturday

The Local Fare Market will open for the season Saturday, May 6.

The market will be from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Okefenokee Heritage Center, 1460 N Augusta Ave in Waycross.

This year will mark the eighth year the gates have swung open bringing hundreds to shop for local products at WayGreen’s Local Fare Market.  

Shoppers have a wide selection of unique, one of a kind, local, handmade, homegrown goods to purchase underneath the pines.   

“Through this ‘more than a farmers’ market’, we are building community that is passionate about their food choices as well as supporting those who are creating products close to home,” said Connie Oliver one of the creators of the market.  

Customers can find a variety of local products including goat cheese, produce, eggs, honey, custom rubs, soaps, jellies, jams, meats, produce, breads, sweets and more being added daily.  Vendors confirmed for the May market include Crossroad Farm, GreenWay Farm & Gardens, Backyard Alchemist, Simply Sweet Talk, Hall’s Homestead, Ed’s Apiaries, Pitmasters Custom Rubs, Branch Farm Company, Silas Allen Farm, Mr. Ricky’s Beef Jerky, The Yard Family Farm and Creekside Soap.  More vendors are expected to be approved before deadline.

The purpose of WayGreen’s Local Fare Market is to provide a direct market for local farmers, growers, producers, artists and artisans for their products/services. The mission of the Local Fare Market is to promote understanding and participation in a local food system and increase access to local products   All vendors must be visited by a market committee member ensuring their products are all locally homegrown or handmade. WayGreen is a 501c3 non-profit local food coalition.
