Pierce County 4-H BB Team recently brought home the gold from the Target Challenge Weekend State Championship held at Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton.
State Champs, the Pierce Red team all earned their Master status: Laney Herrin, Gabriela Herrin, Lilah Hall, Greyson Christmas, Nicole Simpson, Riley Martinez, and Devan Turner.
Pierce White team, came in fifth place. Members include: Allie Herrin, Jerri Beth Mullis, Gad Depratter, Eli Locklear, Aaron Moseley, Eli Chesser, and Aleeah Eason.
Pierce Blue team came in 20th place against 55 rival teams totalling 414 competitors. Members include: Sheldon Knight, Yasmeen Yasiji, Olivia Davis, Austin Brymer, Jaxon Coates, Layla Justice, and Trey Dixon.
Competing as an individual was team member Angel Justice.
GA 4-H recognizes the three highest overall places (scores for all positions combined) for youth participating in their first state match. Newcomer Jerri Mullis took 3rd place in this category.
Also recognized with medallions were the athletes placing 1-3 in each of the four positions:
Standing Position- 2nd place: Laney Herrin.
Sitting Position- 2nd place: Laney Herrin and 3rd place: Nicole Simpson.
Kneeling Position- 1st place: Allie Herrin
In the overall individual category Laney Herrin took second place, earning an invitation for the winner and coach to the State Congress Achievement Banquet.
The Project SAFE (Shooting Awareness, Fun and Education) Team consists of BB and air rifle teams. All SAFE Team members are required to complete a gun safety course prior to participating in firearm practices.
Program curriculum is designed to assist young people’s personal development, establishing an environmental ethic and exploring life-long vocational and avocational activities. Responsibility, decision-making and setting realistic, personal goals are also promoted.
Participants may elect to compete at a level appropriate to their abilities, or pursue other objectives. Like other 4-H projects, SAFE has a subject matter base with strong links to natural resources, wildlife, outdoor recreation and safety.
