Friday, May 5 was School Lunch Hero Day and we salute those ladies in the Bear Cafe who work hard each day to ensure excellence as the standard in school nutrition: Retta Rowe, April Hodgman, Ann Roberson, Amanda Sweet, Abby Burkett, Jane Barrett, and Dana Daniels.

Congrats to the PCHS Forestry Team, which placed 4th at the State Forestry Field Day this past week. PCHS had four members earn 2nd place individual honors: Rena Correll (Timber Stand Improvement), Jamey Crawford (Land Measurement), Levi Yarbrough (Foot Volume - Sawtimber), and Darbin Sanchez- (Cord Volume -Pulpwood). Other competing team members included Rahli Turner, Elizabeth Griner, Emma Knowlton, Madison McSwain, Isa Kanazadora, Christopher Johns, and Kaleb McCullough.

We also salute Ben Swain, who placed 1st at the inaugural Coastal Pines Technical College Weld Off. Congrats to Ben and to his instructor at PCHS, Mr. William Warner.

On Monday, 18 students put pens to paper on Future Teacher Signing Day here at PCHS. Kudos to Becky Thigpen and Henry Peagler, who signed national athletic letters of intent during this past Week at PCHS. Becky will play soccer at Brewton-Parker College while Henry will play football at the University of Georgia.

We salute those PCHS athletes who were recognized recently in the 912 Sports Magazine Player of the Year Ceremony. Jada Patterson was named the Small School Track Player of the Year while Mackenzie Connell was named the Small School Player of the Year by 912 Sports Magazine. Jaden Lyons was named the Small School Wrestler of the Year.

PCHS Chorus and Theatre Departments will present “The Wizard of Oz” May 11, 12, and 13 at 7 pm in the auditorium. Admission will be $10 at the door.

The PBIS Spring Fling is this Friday, May 12. This is a reward for those who achieved specific requirements set forth.

Seniors: Remember “Senior Dress Up Week” is next week, May 15th-19th! All seniors are encouraged to dress up all week long. Then on Friday the 19th, ALL grades asked to participate.
Monday is Senior Shirts day. Tuesday is Favorite Decade day. Wednesday is College Shirts day
Thursday is Dress professional day. Friday is Color Wars with 9th wearing white, 10th wearing blue, 11th wearing Gray, and 12th wearing Black.

The dress code remains in effect. Remember: hats are not to be worn inside the building. Also, shorts are not permitted to be rolled or worn in any other manner that causes them to be shorter than the specified length. Thanks for keeping it classy as we near the end of the year!

Varsity spring football practice continues all this week (May 8-12). Ninth grade practice will be May 15-18.

Volleyball tryouts are May 15 and 16 from 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. and again May 17 from 3:45 until 5:45 in the new gym. This is for all players currently in grades 8-11.

June 12-14 are the three days for upcoming seniors to make appointments for their senior pictures with the school’s senior pictures photographer, SWI. July 29th is make-up day.

College of Coastal Georgia and Southeast Georgia Health System will be hosting the 2nd edition of Nurse Camp, July 11-14. Instruction is 9-4 daily, and there are two pricing options, including an overnight option for those students who want to stay on campus. Apply only by May 15 at sghs.org/nursecamp.

Seniors: Remember to pay your class dues, fines, lunch bills, and any outstanding fees or fines ASAP. Senior class dues are $20, but if you haven’t paid from previous year, you must also pay those before graduation. Underclassmen fees are: juniors ($25), sophomores ($10), and freshmen ($5).
