The Pierce County High School girls advanced to the final four, while the boys tennis team’s season came to an end in the Elite Eight.
The Lady Bears defeated Fellowship Christian at home 3-2 Monday afternoon.
The Lady Bears won on the strength of their singles players. In the action, Grace Christopher defeated Lilly Patterson 6-4, 6-3, Rebecca Tyre defeated Sallie Thorne, 6-1, 6-2 and Marli Walker beat Leighton Bacheller 6-4, 6-1.
The doubles team of Maura Kate Waters and Taylor Sikes fell to Avery Gilliard and Mia Perciano 6-4, 6-4. Mattie Lee and Jasmine Sergent fell to Ellie Bean and Ashlyn James. The duo won the first match 6-2, but lost two 6-2 and 6-3.
The Lady Bears will host the Final Four round in Bearville and will play the winner of the Model/Berrien County match. A date for the match has not yet been set.
The Bears fell to Fellowship Christian in Roswell Friday in the Elite Eight round.
Jeb Bradley and J.C. Nimmer were swept in straight sets in singles play and Doubles duos made up of David Hersey and Peyton Thompson and Bennett Higginson and Garrett page were also swept in straight sets.
“We are sad the season has come to an end but I am extremely proud of the boys and (we) can be very proud of how far they came this season. The future looks bright for PCHS boys tennis and I’m excited to see what is to come of this tennis program in the next few years,” said Head Coach Lori Marx.
Earlier, in the Sweet 16 round last week, the Lady Bears swept all matches over Dodge County of Eastman.
At number one singles, Christopher defeated Caroline Southerland 6-2 and 4-2. Tyre beat Kate Jones 6-2, 2-1 at number 2 singles and number three singles Walker defeated Ashlyn Grauberger 6-0, 6-3.
In number one doubles Waters and Sikes defeated JuJu Pruitt and Ava Wilkinson 6-1, 6-3.
At number two doubles, Lee and Sergent defeated Sarah Barron and Allena Burch 6-1, 6-1.
The Bears also swept all matches with Ace Charter of Macon in the Sweet 16 round.
Number one singles Bradley, number two singles Nimmer and number three singles Aaden Carlson all swept their opponents. Nimmer won 6-3, 6-2, Carlson won 6-2,6-0 and Bradley won the first match 6-3 and was winning the second match 3-2 when the contest was called because Pierce had won the majority of the games.
Number one doubles duo of Hersey and Thompson and number two doubles team of Higginson and Page also swept their opponents by indentical 6-0, 6-1 scores.
