Scruggs, White state champions in track

Sophie Scruggs won the state championship in pole vault and JaQuez White won the state championship in the 300 meter hurdles at the state track meet last week.

Scruggs had a personal record of 11 feet, seven inches in the pole vault.

White turned in a time of 37.91 seconds in the 300 meterĀ  hurdles to claim the state title.

Several other track team members competed in the state track meet.

They include Kora Good, sixth place in the high jump and Reed Young, eighth in the pole vault with 11 feet, six inches.

In the team competitions, the 4 by 400 boys relay placed fourth. Team members include Joe Drew, Jimarion Guyton, Dexter Hartzog and JaQuez White.

The 4 by 400 girls relay team finished in the top 10 at 10th place. Team members include Jada Patterson, Scruggs, Mollie Williamson and Good.

The 4 x 400 boys team finished in 11th place.

Campbell Strickland got a personal record of 10 feet six inches in the pole vault.
