Maggie Lee Black, 93, of Blackshear, passed away Monday morning, September 4, 2o23, at Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross, following an extended illness.
Born December 5, 1929, in Blackshear, she was a daughter of the late Willie Leon and Mary Maggie Lee Anderson Dowling. She lived in Pierce County all her life and had worked at King Edward Cigar Factory in Waycross, Rubin Brothers Shoe Factory in Blackshear and as a greeter at Wal-Mart. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Blackshear.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Hiers “Dick” Herrin; her second husband, Havard Black and two brothers, Leon Dowling and David Horace Dowling.
Survivors include two sisters, Navadine Callahan and Bonnie Scott, both of Blackshear; a brother and sister-in-law, Tommie and Mary Dowling, Apollo Beach, FL; two step-children and three step-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at the funeral home.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 6, from the Oakland Cemetery in Waycross.
