Rose A. “Penny” Irick Gooden, 66, of Blackshear, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross.
Born in Dayton, OH September 13, 1957, she had lived in Cynthiana, KY prior to moving back to Pierce County 11 years ago. She had been a waitress at Cracker Barrel and Howard Johnson restaurants in Kentucky and the Oak Plaza Restaurant in Blackshear prior to purchasing the Oak Plaza and running it for several years. She loved the outdoors and keeping a beautiful home.She enjoyed playing volleyball, bowling, and going to concerts (Celtic Woman and Celion Dion to name a few). She was of the Baptist faith.
She was a daughter of the late Robert Earl Irick and Juanita Faye Culbertson Strickland. She was also preceded in death by her step-father, Owen Leroy “Big Hoss” Strickland.
Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Alan Lewis Gooden, Blackshear; a step-daughter, Monica Gooden (Greg Morrison), Sadieville, KY; two step-sons, Greg (Laura) Gooden, Cynthiana and Shaun (Bethany) Gooden, Nashville, TN; a sister, Terri (James) Higgs, Blackshear; three brothers, Bobby Irick, Blackshear, Keith (Georgie) Irick, Athens, TN and Barry (Corrina) Irick, Albuquerque, NM; a sister-in-law, Mary Marshall, Georgetown, KY; six grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church near Hoboken.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, from the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church near Hoboken.
Memorialization will be by cremation.
