Virgil G. Dixon Sr., 77, died Tuesday evening, September 26, 2023, at his residence.
He was born in Blackshear to the late Joseph Grady and Clara Lee Yawn Dixon Kier. He retired from CSX as a wreck master and served in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Dover Bluff Club and loved fishing, golfing, and working in his garden.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Leigh Dixon Gill and three brothers, J.S. Dixon, Lamar Dixon, and Ricky Dixon.
Survivors include his wife, Harriett Pafford Dixon, Waverly; his children, Grady Dixon, Jacksonville, FL and Lori Dixon Walker (Jamie), Sharpsburg; five grandchildren, Trey Gill, Micah Walker (Alyssa), Tori Cason, Jonas Walker (Grace) and Joshua Walker; four great-grandchildren, Landon Walker, Jaxson Cason, Maisie Walker and Tate Cason and a sister, Betty Dixon Watson.
Memorialization will be by cremation.
