Burnett Turner Sloan

Burnett Turner Sloan, 94, of Brunswick, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023.

She was born October 28, 1928, in Patterson to Alex and Georgia Anderson Turner.

She graduated from Bacon County High School in 1946 and shortly thereafter, moved to St. Simons Island. She began as an operator for Southern Bell in Novembe, 1946 where she worked for 35 years in different departments including repair clerk, service order clerk, assignment clerk and sales clerk.

She met William Sylvester “Vet” Sloan during this time and they married December 31, 1948 and moved to Brunswick. She retired from Southern Bell in August of 1981.

She had many interests including shopping, camping, gardening, canning, sewing and even hunting and fishing with Vet. Even though she had no children of her own, she was a motherly figure to not only her nieces and nephews, but also all of the neighborhood kids. Above all, she dearly loved her family and treasured spending time with each and every one of them.

She was a member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church, where she found solace and strength in her faith. Her devotion to her religious community was a source of comfort and support throughout her life.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William Sylvester “Vet” Sloan; her sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice Turner Hollaway (Mac), and two brothers-in-law, James DeLoach and Barry Cooke.

Survivors include her sisters, Laverne DeLoach and Doris Cooke; her brother, Jack Turner (Cheryl) and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Pine Ridge Baptist Church in Brunswick.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, from the Pine Ridge Baptist Church in Brunswick.

Burial and committal services will take place at 3 p.m. that afternoon at the Wesley Chapel Church Cemetery.

Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home of Brunswick is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
