Mary Carol “Nana” Payne departed her loving family Friday, October 6,2023.
She was most known as mama to many and Nana to all 10 of her grandchildren.
She was born in Fernandina Beach, FL. December 24, 1955 to Robert “Lester” Crosby and “Hester” Savilla Chancey Crosby.
She was a loving, faithful wife of 50 years to her husband “Donald” Alfred Payne and they celebrated their 50th anniversary February 2, 2023. Together they raised three children with love and devotion in Blackshear including David Harry Payne, Robert Ashley Payne and Amanda Carol Payne Smith.
She worked at Barber’s Pharmacy for many years and retired from CCU at Satilla Regional Hospital in Waycross.
In addition to her devotion to her husband, children, and grandchildren she loved growing flowers, cooking and helping people in need. She was a friend to many. All who knew her loved her dearly.
She was preceded by her parents Robert “Lester” and “Hester” Savilla Crosby; her sisters and brothers Nita Weir, Annette Sikes, Eddie Crosby, Joe Crosby, Sarah “Lil” Thrift and Ronnie Crosby.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Payne; her children David H. Payne (Lori), Nahunta, R. Ashley Payne, Blackshear and Amanda C. Payne Smith (Mac), Waycross; 10 Grandchildren Maggie Payne, Hannah Strickland, Amber Strickland, Evan Payne, Abby Payne, Lily Payne, Emersyn Payne, Taylor Smith, Daisy Thigpen and Ranson Thigpen; her sisters, Marie Andersen, Blackshear and Billie Cornelius (Don), Nashville.
Visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will be in the New Home Cemetery near Offerman.
