PCHS Bear Facts

This week’s PCHS Bear Facts is a listing of hot topics for the week spanning April 12-18.

Now that we are back from Spring Break, let’s take a moment to recognize some really special folks whose official appreciation days occurred over spring break.

April 1 marked Paraprofessional Appreciation Day and we salute four ladies who go above and beyond every day to maximize instruction: Mrs. Ramona Hollis, Mrs. Dena West, Mrs. Julie White, and Mrs. Jennifer Griner.

April 3-7 was Assistant Principal Appreciation Week and at PCHS we have four of the best: Mrs. Melissa Thomas, Mrs. Ericka McIntosh, Mr. Tony Gibson and Coach Brandon Jernigan. Thanks to each of you for your untiring efforts each day in making PCHS truly a great place!

April 4 was National School Librarian Week and we appreciate Mrs. Jeanette Lincoln, who dutifully handles those responsibilities with class and professionalism!

Sports physicals for the 2023-24 school year will be after school on Wednesday, April 19 in the gym. You must have a physical to compete. Cost is $10. Make checks payable to PCHS. Physical forms are available in the nurse’s office and must be returned to Nurse Paige King or Mrs. Ellen Knowlton by April 14.

The Fresh Express line in the Bear Cafe will be closed for the rest of the school year. But you can still get PB&J Uncrustables at all the other lines each and every day.  Also, chips will be available every day at the pizza line.

Join us at Prom Saturday, April 22 from 7:30 - 10:30 as we “Dance Through the Decades”.  Senior walk begins at 9 p.m. Senior walk only will be broadcast via the PCHS Facebook page.

Competition Cheer Tryouts will be held April 24-27 from 3:30-5 p.m. in the PCHS Cheer Room. Please scan the QR Code on the “Save the Date” posters around campus to fill out the tryout form.

PowderPuff Teams have been formed for the Bennett’s Blitz PowderPuff Game April 24. Team members should be on the lookout for information from their coaches regarding practice times and locations.

The annual PCHS Teacher Signing Day will be Monday, May 1. Participants must be seniors graduating in 2023 who want to pursue working with children in education as their career job”. Students come by Mrs. Amy Day’s classroom 249 to sign up.

PCHS Chorus and Theatre Departments will present “The Wizard of Oz” May 11, 12, and 13 at 7 pm in the auditorium. Admission will be $10 at the door.

Seniors: Remember to pay your class dues, fines, lunch bills, and any outstanding fees or fines ASAP. Senior class dues are $20, but if you haven’t paid from previous year, you must also pay those before graduation. Underclassmen fees are: juniors ($25), sophomores ($10), and freshmen ($5).

PCHS FBLA is selling 2023 Graduation Yard Signs. These signs are 24x18 and there are four designs to choose from. Complete the following form to order: https://forms.gle/buoFx7hH6cd9Jy9P6 The last day to order is Friday, April 28. Email the pictures to be used to [email protected]. Grizzly Gear is selling Diploma Frames and Mats for our seniors! There are three design choices. Complete the following form to order:  https://forms.gle/V1B8X4SDyMgWey3AA . The last day to order is Friday, April 28. There is a six-week lead time on these orders. You can also order the mat only. The choice size is 11x14 (outer dimensions). This mat will be packaged separately in a presentation bag to protect it from deterioration from handling. Once you’ve submitted the form, you must pay by online school payments: bit.ly/3L4EFUf.

Here is the PCHS sports schedule for the remainder of the week:

Wednesday, April 12: The Bears baseball team will host Tattnall at 6 p.m. at PCHS.

Thursday, April 13: Varsity track hosts its final regular meet of the season, 4 p.m. at PCMS. Varsity girls’ soccer will host Thomson High at 6:00 in Bear Stadium. This is round one of the state class AA playoffs. This game will be broadcast on the NFHS Network.

Friday, April 14: Boys soccer will travel to Westside of Augusta on Friday with a 6:00 start time. This is round one of the state class AA playoffs.

Monday, April 17: Varsity baseball plays at Toombs County (6 p.m.).

Tuesday, April 18:  The region 3-AA track meet begins at PCMS (10 a.m.). Varsity girls’ golf hosts Brantley County and Appling County at Okefenokee Country Club. Varsity baseball hosts Toombs County (6 p.m.) in the final regular season game of the season. This is senior night.
