The Pierce County High School (PCHS) Bears hosted region rival Windsor Forest Friday, March 24.
“The stakes could not have been any higher for either team, in regards to state playoff hopes,” said Head Coach John Hilton.
The match was a defensive stalemate for the majority of the first half.
Bear’s defense, consisting of Walker Brown, Ceb Carter, Seth Stipe and goalkeeper Caden Edwards was able to shut down several offensive attacks from the Knights.
With the clock dwindling, and only moments left in the first half, senior striker Jonah Allen slipped a freekick by the Knight’s goalkeeper to take the lead for the Bears.
The Bears went on to outplay the Knights in the second half with standout performances from Lane Doss, Clark Stovall and Alex Merida.
Caden Edwards recorded 11 saves on the night and finished with the perfect clean sheet.
With this win, the Bears have secured a spot in the GHSA state playoffs. The Bears traveled to Brantley on Tuesday (Mar. 28) for another region match-up.
