The Pierce County High School girls and boys tennis teams advanced to the second round of the state playoffs last week.
The Sweet 16 round of the state playoffs was scheduled for Monday, April 24 (after The Times deadline). The Lady Bears were scheduled to play Dodge County in Bearville. The Bears were slated to play Ace Charter in Macon.
In the first round last week, the Lady Bears swept all matches with Technical Career Magnet School of Richmond County/Augusta.
At number one singles, Grace Christopher defeated Bemissa Kablan 6-0 and 6-0. Rebecca Tyre beat Alannah Keith 6-0, 6-0 at number 2 singles and number three singles Marli Walker defeated Brenda De La Cruz Reynoso 6-0, 6-0.
In number one doubles Maura Kate Waters and Mary Kathryn Cox defeated Makari Stokes and LeHana Morgan 6-0, 6-0.
At number two doubles, Mattie Lee and Jasmine Sergent defeated Xharia Boone and Aziah Gary 6-0, 6-0.
The Bears swept all matches with John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School of Augusta.
Number one singles Jeb Bradley, number two singles J.C. Nimmer and number three singles Aaden Carlson all swept their opponents by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores.
Number one doubles duo of Davis Hersey and Peyton Thompson and number two doubles team of Bennett Higginson and Garrett Page also swept their opponents by indentical 6-0, 6-0 scores.
