Josephine ‘Jo’ Walker O’Steen Tuten

Josephine “Jo” Walker O’Steen Tuten, 85, of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday morning, April 11, 2023, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross.  

Born in Patterson March 19, 1938, she lived in Jacksonville, FL for many years before moving back to Pierce County in the early 1980s. She worked for Memorial Hospital in the early 1970s where she helped to create their billing software. She was a former administrator of the Bacon County Hospital in Alma and of the Gilman Hospital in St. Marys. She had a natural green thumb and therefore loved gardening. She also enjoyed cooking, spending time with her friends, family and children who she dearly loved. Throughout her life, she was always there to help others when they needed her.    

She was the daughter of the late Ephraim Allen and Mattie Mizell Barnard Walker. She was also preceded in death by her four sisters (Agnes, Mattie Bell, Margaret and Dolly) and two brothers (Earl and Junior).

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and John Hasty and Susan and Michael Yeoman, all of Jacksonville; her son, Leonard O’Steen, Blackshear; five grandchildren, Brittany Hasty (Cassie Golden), Joshua Smith, Spencer Yeoman, Sydney Yeoman and Chad Meldrum; three great-grandchildren, Karma Rousseau, Teagan Meldrum and Ronan Meldrum and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the funeral home.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 22, from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.
