Robert Douberly will be the new girls head basketball coach at Pierce County High School.
Douberly will succeed Lacie Evans who is stepping down.
Douberly will come out of retirement to coach the Lady Bears. He was Evans’ assistant coach for the Lady Bears and was formerly the head coach of the Ware Magnet Eagles (now closed).
Evans finishes with a 142-84 record as Lady Bears head coach over eight seasons. Her team advanced to the Final Four and won the region championship in the 2021-2022 season.
Evans will be the new head coach for sixth and seventh grade boys and girls at Pierce County Middle School.
The decisions were among a flurry of personnel items voted on at last Tuesday’s work session of the Board of Education.
It came following a 19 minute closed session to discuss personnel.
In other athletic decisions. Jason Demos was approved as a baseball and football assistant coach, Lawrence Inalasco was approved as wrestling head coach, Barry King was approved for 10 additional days as a football assistant coach and Kevin Stevenson was approved as a football assistant coach.
John Hilton resigned as assistant wrestling coach, but will remain as a teacher.
Demos and Insalaco were hired as teachers at the high school and Stevenson as a teacher at Midway Elementary.
In other recommendations, Brittini Tuten was hired as a teacher at Midway Elementary, Morgan Demos was hired as a teacher at Patterson Elementary and Melissa Sazama as a bus driver in transportation.
The board also voted to accept the resignations of Meagan Hitchner as special education paraprofessional at Blackshear Elementary and Brittany King as school nutrition assistant at Blackshear Elementary.
Avis Harris, secretary to the superintendent, was approved to increase her work hours to 75 percent.
The Board also opened an assistant principal and two special education teachers at the middle school. Funding for the new positions will come from the state as the school system earned the new positions through the Quality Basic Education formula.
