PCMS track teams have successful 2023 seasons, finish as runner-ups

Pierce County Middle School (PCMS) track teams had a very successful 2023 season.

Competing in four regular season practice meets, the Lady Bears were undefeated and the Bears lost only one meet to the Appling County Pirates.

“We had a few individual records set for middle school this year!” said Coach Denise Brown.

Braden McKendree, 8th grader, recorded a 15.15 sec 110m hurdle time.

Jeffrey Walley, an 8th grader, threw the discus 127 feet

Coach Brown reported the conference meet was a fight from the first event.

“The girls trailed Appling  by three points the entire race. Going into the last three races they began to pull away. The Lady Bears ran hard and finished in second place as conference Runners up,” she said.

The boys meet was similar, with PCMS athletes trailing Appling Co by three points the entire race. This continued as the Bears entered the last event.

The Bears had to make some substitutions due to an injury and  “ran their hearts out,” per Coach Brown.

Coming up shy by four points, the Bears also finished conference runners up.
