The Southeast Cancer Unit (SECU) will host an event honoring survivors and a memorial service Friday, April 21.
“The purpose of this event is to honor our cancer survivors, and also to have a Memorial Service for those who have passed away due to cancer, since our April, 2019 Walk,” said Janice Brown, SECU volunteer.
The event will be held at 6 p.m. in the MAC Building behind Blackshear First Baptist Church, 670 East Main Street Blackshear.
In addition to the ceremony, a meal will also be provided.
Cancer survivors and the family members of those who have lost loved ones to cancer, are invited to attend.
If you plan to attend, please call the SECU office by April 18. The office number is 912-452-7070.
The SECU is a local non-profit operation with no paid staff serving Pierce, Ware and Brantley Counties. The unit provides assistance to cancer patients by helping to pay costs incurred due to cancer. Examples of aid provided includes fuel vouchers for medical trips and setting accounts at pharmacies to help offset costs. The SECU offers up to $1,500 per year per patient in financial assistance.
All funds beyond basic office expenses and fund raising costs, go to the cancer patients.
The self-supporting organization receives no government funding. All money comes from individual and business contributions, fundraisers and corporate sponsorships.
Prior to COVID, the SECU held a cancer walk each spring to raise funds.
