Senior Center plants garden

Pierce County Senior Center participants recently had the opportunity to “play in the dirt”.

Emanuel Williams of Loving Acres Farm in Baxley sponsored a raised garden for the local senior center. Williams donated the supplies and tools to create a raised garden to allow seniors to plant vegetables at the senior center on Carter Avenue.

Many of the senior center participants say they had a blast preparing and tilling the soil and planting seeds. Many recalled that it reminded them of their childhoods when home grown vegetable gardens were essential to their families.

The Senior Center garden crew includes from l-r Sierra Strickland, Karen Herndon, Vina Howell, Emanuel Williams, Barbara Thornton, Sandra Clark, Jerry Tyson, Charles Daniels, Terrell Tuten and Lynn Platt.
