County Clerk to take leave of absence to serve in Coast Guard

County clerk Chuck Yeargin will be taking a leave of absence to fulfill his duties as a reservist in the U.S. Coast Guard.

Interim County Manager Bryan Singleton announced Yeargin’s upcoming absence at the April county commission meeting.

Yeargin will begin serving in mid-May under temporary active duty orders at the Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, New Jersey. He will be on duty until late August.

Cape May is the Coast Guard’s sole facility for recruit training.

Yeargin will be serving as environmental health and safety coordinator at the center. The fire department provides fire protection and emergency services to both the base and the Cape May County civilian community.

Yeargin has been a long-time volunteer firefighter with Pierce County and has previously served as the county’s deputy fire chief.

Yeargin  has served as county clerk and human resources officer since the resignation of County Manager Jason Rubenbauer in November, 2022.
