A Blackshear man was severely burned in a house fire on Central Road in the Midway Church Road Community last week.
Woodrow Kirton suffered burns in the blaze.
Kirton told rescuers he had been cooking and a fire on the stove got away from him and quickly spread to the interior of the house.
He was able to get out of the house to safety, but sustained the burns.
Kirton was taken by Pierce EMS to Memorial Satilla in Waycross and later transferred to the Augusta Burn Center.
He is reportedly facing surgery for his injuries.
Kirton lived in a single-wide 1980s model mobile home. Firefighters received the alarm at 7:16 a.m. Tuesday.
The home was a total loss. Value of the lost home and its contents was estimated at $35,000.
Firemen from the Pierce County Volunteer Fire Department and the Blackshear Fire Department responded to the blaze.
