Former post office employee pleads guilty to ID fraud

An Alma woman has plead guilty to identity fraud in connection with allegedly stealing at least two money orders from the Blackshear Post Office.

Lori Ashley Meeks pled guilty last week in Pierce County Superior Court.

Judge Kelly Brooks sentenced Meeks to five years probation and she must pay restitution under first offender status. She was also ordered not to have any contact with the victims in the case.

Meeks was represented by Attorney DeLeigh Poole of Waycross.

According to the warrant and incident reports, Meeks took two money orders placed at the Blackshear Post Office and redeemed them for cash, although the orders were not made out to her.

The incidents occurred in October and November of last year.

The case was investigated by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office. The United States Postal Inspector declined to assist with the case.
