PCHS tennis teams win over Appling, Tattnall

Pierce County High School (PCHS) Tennis faced off against Appling County Tuesday March 14 and came out on top.

The boys team faced one loss (2-6, 4-6) at #1singles, where PCHS’s Jeb Bradley competed against Appling’s Angel Escalante.

Other singles matches ended better for PCHS.

J.C. Nimmer (#2 singles, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2) and Aaden Carlson (#3 singles, 6-2, 6-1) both enjoyed victories.

Boys double matches brought a couple close calls, but PCHS pulled through.

At #1 doubles, the Davis Hersey and Peyton Thompson duo walked away with win (4-6, 7-6, 6-3).

Bennett Higginson and Garrett Page also brought home a win at #2 doubles (4-6, 6-4,  10 pt. tiebreaker [10-5]).

Competition from Appling was a little more stiff for the Lady Bears with a 3-2 overall score.

Grace Christopher sailed to a win (6-1, 6-1) at #1 singles.

Rebecca Tyre  did similarly well (6-1, 6-1) at #2 singles.

At #3 singles Marli Walker fought hard, but fell short in the final set (6-4, 6-7, 4-6).

Appling also edged out #1 doubles pairing MauraKate Waters and Taylor Sikes (4-6, 3-6).

At #2 doubles, Mattie Lee and Jasmine Sergent faired better, bringing home a (6-2, 6-3) win.

PCHS hosted Tattnall County Thursday, March 16 and yet again walked away the victors.

Wins came fast for the PCHS Boys at both Singles matches (#1 singles - Jeb Bradley (6-1, 6-3), #2 singles - J.C. Nimmer (6-0,6-0) and #3 singles - Aaden Carlson (6-1, 6-0).

Doubles were not much different.

At #1 doubles Higginson and Thompson (6-3, 6-3) won.

Grayson Rodgers and Page pushed through to a win after a little resistance in their first set (6-4, 6-0) at #2 doubles.

On the women’s side was an equally efficient set of wins.

At singles, Christopher (#1 singles - 6-1, 6-2), Tyre (#2 singles  - 6-2, 6-1) and Jasmine Sergent Jasmine Sergent (#3 singles - 6-0, 6-3) pulled off clean upsets.

At #1 doubles Sikes and Waters won (6-1, 6-1).

The #2 doubles pairing  MaryKathyrn Cox and Natalie Sullivan also came out on top (6-2, 6-1).

Seniors Night was observed March 16. Among those recognized were Taylor Sikes, Bennett Higginson, Natalie Sullivan, Davis Hersey and Mary Kathyrn Cox.  

The Golden Isles Tournament, scheduled for March 17-18, was cancelled due to weather.

However, “Four teams (Glynn Academy, Jeff Davis, Colquitt, and Pierce) got together Friday and played a modified tournament with only two matches and scoring at Pro8 with AD,” said Head Girls Coach Kathy Bradley.

There were no matches Saturday.

Pierce Girls were awarded the trophy due to going undefeated against Glynn (4-1 overall) and Jeff Davis (3-2 overall).

PCHS tennis is next set to host competitors from Vidalia Thursday (March 23).
