A Waycross man was killed and a woman was seriously injured in a car accident early Sunday morning on U.S. Highway 84.
Roger Donald Hickox, 32, of Waycross, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
According to Blackshear Police Chief Chris Wright, the accident occurred about 3:22 a.m. Sunday, March 19, on U.S. Highway 84. Hickox was driving a 2013 Ford Fusion westbound on U.S. Highway 84 when he crossed the eastbound lanes and the vehicle came to rest in a deep ditch off the shoulder of the roadway near Hacklebarney Creek and Mark’s Auto and Collision, just past Hurst Lane.
A passenger in the vehicle, Rachel Wilson of Ludowici, was airlifted to UF Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. She is in critical condition according to Wright.
Hickox was a native of Wayne County, but lived in Waycross and worked with Clayton Homes and Woody Folsom Automotive. He was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan and loved to hunt, fish and spend time with family and friends.
A memorial service for Hickox is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday, March 24, at the Rinehart and Sons Chapel in Jesup.
