Hacklebarney Community in Pierce County is aglow with a “mountain of Cherokee roses.’’ Owner Nickie Carter offers this photo of her roses which are at their peak; despite the cold weather. “The roses are beautiful, but not very popular with home owners as they have the most dangerous thorns,’’ Mrs. Carter says. “I planted these in the woods next to my home and they have formed a mountain of beauty. They are our state’s State Flower. Many say, ‘It’s a shame the roses come with the thorns’ and they have to be trimmed when the mowing starts in that area.’’ Also, those who have the roses, know they grow promptly causing them to be pruned monthly.
