This week’s PCHS Bear Facts is a listing of hot topics for the week spanning March 8-14.

Congratulations to PCHS students who recently earned Microsoft certifications.  Austin Sikes, Conner Rye, Caleb Howell, R.J. Nunn and Rene Howell all received their Microsoft Office Specialist Certifications in Powerpoint 2019. Gracen Hall, Lorelai Thompson, Beyonce Sanchez and Noemi DeLeon received their certifications in Microsoft Word 2019. Meanwhile, Mason Robertson was certified in PowerPoint 2019 and became a Microsoft Office Associate being certified in Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Mrs. Lauren Whitaker is their instructor.

Good luck to members of the AV class who are competing at the Georgia Student Technology competition this Saturday (March 11) in Cumming. Participants include Clint Hendrix (Animation), Hayden Feagin and Corbin Hunzeker (Audio Production), Cayden Lovell & Preston Lloyd (Digital Photo Production), Whitney King and Aryn Broadnax (Graphic Design), Nathan Rupright (Multimedia Applications), Ryker Coomes (Video Production), and Cameron Jarrell and Jad Lynn (Video Production).

Today (Wednesday) is the deadline to purchase Boston butt tickets from Hog-n-Bones from the PCHS Prom Committee. Tickets are $30 each. This is an $8 savings from the normal counter price at the restaurant. You can redeem your tickets any time between now and May 13 at the Waycross Hog-n-Bones. See Mrs. Slusher or a Prom Committee member to purchase tickets.

Candidates for the 2023 Sound of Silver Color Guard and flagline will practice Friday, March 10 and again from Tuesday, March 14 -Thursday, March 16 from 3:45 until 5:30 each of those days. Tryout day will be Friday, March 17 in front of judges. You are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes, but all attire must be in accordance with the dress code. Permitted attire includes: T-Shirts, shorts, leggings, tennis shoes, and dance shoes. Not allowed are short shorts, midriff tops/no stomachs showing, low cut tops, sandals, slippers, or shower shoes.

Deadline for the Miss Pierce County High School pageant registration is this Friday, March 10. Girls interested in participating can pick up a registration form from Mrs. Beverly’s room (395) in the mornings before 8:15 or during 4th block. The pageant will be held Saturday, March 25.

Student council members: mark your calendars for the next Student Council meeting, which will be at 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, March 14 in the Bear Conference Room.

Any girl interested in trying out for Spirit Cheerleading, please sign up with Ms. Madison Moore in the front office. All forms are due by March 23.

Student Council Members who signed up to volunteer for Special Olympics should see Mrs. Delaney for a permission slip form in order to attend.  These will be due back by March 24.

Competition Cheer Tryouts will be held from 3-5 p.m. April 24-27 in the PCHS Cheer Room. Please scan the QR Code on the “Save the Date” posters around campus to fill out the tryout form.

Coastal Pines Technical College is fielding interest for the Mobile Electronics Technician Technical Certificate of Credit, which would be offered on campus at PCHS for the 2023-24 school year if there is enough interest. This field of study provides students with short-term training to prepare them for entry-level employment in the field of car audio systems installation. Topics include direct and alternating current principles, soldering techniques, and system installation procedures. On the heels of a seventh place finish at this past Saturday’s Camden Classic in St. Marys, the Bears golf team defeated Toombs County and Jeff Davis Tuesday afternoon with a 9 hole team score of 162. The Bears were led by Ethan Arnold’s 36 and Sam Ricketson’s 39.

PCHS track hosted its first home meet of the season  February 28. For the girls: Jada Patterson (first place, 100-meter dash), Ana Llamas-Diaz (first place, 3200-meter run), Lucy Morgan (first place, high jump), Sophie Scruggs (first place, pole vault), Jada Patterson (first place, long jump). The Pierce County girls also won the 4 X 200 meter relay. For the boys: Jaquez White (first place,  100-meter dash), Joe Drew (first place, 400-meter run), Reid Young (first place, pole vault), and Joe Drew (first place, triple jump)

PCHS baseball routed Southeast Bulloch, 11-3 Friday, March 3. Boys soccer blanked Brantley County, 9-0 while the Lady Bears earned a 10-0 decision over the Lady Herons.
