PCHS tennis teams continue to impress, defeat Toombs and Vidalia

It was another banner week for Pierce County High School (PCHS) tennis, with lopsided wins over Toombs and Vidalia.

Tuesday, March 21 PCHS traveled to Toombs County, where the Lady Bears scored a clean 5-0 overall victory.

Grace Christopher (#1 Singles - 6-2, 6-1), Rebecca Tyre (#2 Singles - 6-1, 6-0) and Marli Walker (#3 Singles - 6-0, 6-0) brought home wins at Singles.

At #1 Doubles Taylor Sikes and MauraKate Waters earned yet another win (6-0, 6-1).

Rounding out the Lady Bears clean-sweep at #2 Doubles were Mattie Lee and Jasmine Sergent (6-0, 6-0).

PCHS men encountered a small bump in their road to victory, but still walked away with a 4-1 overall score.

At #1 Singles Jeb Bradley won (6-0, 6-0).

J.C. Nimmer also bested his  #2 Singles opponenet (6-0, 6-1).

A forfeiture from Toombs gave Aaden Carlson the win at #3 Singles.

At #1 Doubles Kellen Roberts and Peyton Thompson faced PCHS’s one loss of the day after a dramatic turn-around in their second set (6-2, 0-6, 4-6).

Better luck met #2 Doubles combo Bennett Higginson and Garrett Page, who won 6-0, 6-0.

Thursday, March 23 PCHS hosted Vidalia and made good use of their home-field advantage, going undefeated across all matches.

On the Lady Bears’ side of the court Grace Christopher won #1 Singles (6-3, 6-0), Rebecca Tyre won at #2 Singles (6-1, 6-0) and at #3 Singles Marli Walker also showed p her opponents (6-2, 6-1).

At #1 Doubles MauraKate Waters and Emma Beck won (6-3, 6-2).

At #2 Doubles Mattie Lee and Sadie Berry gave the opposing team no room to breathe, walking away with a 6-0, 6-0 win.

The Bears also came ready to play with fast wins at #1 Singles for Jeb Bradley (6-1, 6-1)and #2 Singles for J.C. Nimmer (6-0, 6-0).

At #3 Singles Aaden Carlson faced strong push-back from Vidalia, but came out on top (6-4, 7-6).

At #1 Doubles Davis Hersey and Peyton Thompson won (6-3, 6-2).

#2 Doubles combo Bennett Higginson and Garrett Page also beat back their opponents, ending with a 6-2, 6-3 win.

PCHS next played yesterday (March 28) after The Times went to print.
