PCHS Bear Facts

This week’s PCHS Bear Facts is a listing of hot topics for the week spanning March 29-April 4.

Welcome back, Special Olympics! This time-honored event resumes tomorrow at Pierce County Middle School. It’s the first Special Olympics since 2019. Thank you to the PCHS Special Education Department and to PCHS Student Council for your work to make this a reality once more. The public is invited to attend and support these athletes. There is no cost for admission.

This Friday morning at 10 a.m. we will take the Class of 2023 group photo on the band practice field behind the school. All seniors should wear school colors. Graduation contracts are also due by this Friday. Please return these to the basket outside the main office once they have been signed.

Any student who plans to attend prom on April 22 needs to have all class dues, fines, and their lunch bills paid by this Friday. See Mrs. Amber Cyr to pay your dues or you can do so online.

Friday, March 31 is also an early release day. We hope everyone enjoys spring break, which is April 3-7. Classes will resume Monday, April 10.

Shout out to Jaylin Lee in Mrs. Shabbot’s class. She says Jaylin is always in good spirits and always getting his work done. Meanwhile, Coach Jernigan recognizes the following students for displaying positivity and good work ethic in support of PCHS: Ellis Tyrone (ninth grade), Joseph Flinn (ninth grade), Reiley Fairchild (11th grade), and Griffin Thrift (11th grade).

Congratulations to Owen Roneker, who has been accepted to Georgia Southern. Owen plans to study engineering.

Marcela Deleon is the winner of the recent soccer raffle. We congratulate her and thank all who supported this PCHS soccer fundraiser.

Starting immediately, the Fresh Express line in the Bear Cafe will be closed for the rest of the school year. But don’t worry; you can still get PB&J Uncrustables at all the other lines each and every day.  Also, chips will be available every day at the pizza line.

Competition Cheer Tryouts will be held April 24-27 from 3:30-5 p.m. in the PCHS Cheer Room. Please scan the QR Code on the “Save the Date” posters around campus to fill out the tryout form.

PCHS FBLA is selling 2023 Graduation Yard Signs. These signs are 24x18 and there are four designs to choose from. Grizzly Gear is selling Diploma Frames and Mats for our Seniors! There are three design choices. Complete the following form to order:  https://forms.gle/V1B8X4SDyMgWey3AA . The last day to order is Friday, April 28. There is a six-week lead time on these orders. You can also order the mat only. The choice size is 11x14 (outer dimensions). This mat will be packaged separately in a presentation bag to protect it from deterioration from handling. Once you’ve submitted the form, you must pay by online school payments: bit.ly/3L4EFUf.

Congratulations to PCHS senior track star Jacquez White. Jacquez won the 300-meter hurdles event at a March 17 competition in Vidalia. His time of 39.71 seconds has since been verified as a school record.

PowderPuff Teams have been formed for the Bennett’s Blitz PowderPuff Game on April 24. Team members should be on the lookout for information from their coaches regarding practice times and locations.
